This church is a cult. I have spoken to many many people who have left and heard some horrendous stories of abuse and control, as well as experiencing horrible manipulation during my time there too. If you show any sign of vulnerability you will be used and exploited and sadly, lots of the people caught up in this cult are nice and blind to manipulation. If you think this is a good church you need to go back to your bible and actually start reading it and checking what they are doing against the scriptures. Furthermore, Dave and Jen Gilpin live very comfortable lives as celebrities whilst encouraging their congregation to give until they are afraid they won't have enough money to get by. Dave Gilpin is a narcissistic cult leader who is self obsessed, his books are just about him, not Jesus. Hope City is just a Christian cult where the leaders benefit enormously from the members. Why does Hope City church pay one of it's staff between 90,000 and 100,000 a year? (see online financial reports for Hope City). Like, a third of the dream offerings are going directly into somebody's pocket! I wonder who. More worryingly, again, looking at the accounts, why is City Hearts giving HUGE grants to Hope City church? (100,000 in 2016 and 148,000 in 2017). Surely it should be the other way round? Shouldn't the church be giving it's money to the charity?? Isn't that government money??I also advise reading 'Cults in our Midst' by Margaret Singer as there are some alarming similarities between Hope City church and her definitions of unhealthy cult communities. Equip yourself with knowledge and don't trust your feelings because this church targets feelings to trap people with love bombing and other manipulation techniques. Please do not pay attention to these positive reviews because the church gets all the bad ones removed and a lot of reviews on here are done by people on the payroll. Just look at all the dates of the reviews and match them to the date the Channel four news report came out about their charity, city hearts. Something clearly not right. If you are a parent and you have a son or daughter moving away to university, warn them about Hope City because this group specifically targets students. If you are concerned, I would urge you to contact universities and warn them. Furthermore, beware of Hope City's leadership academy, as a teacher I can tell you the 'accredited' training is not worth the paper it is written on in the real world!
Praise be to God . I have been healed of Schizor affective disorder today 21/10/2018. Thank you God. Thank you Senior Pastor Dave Gilpin for praying for me.
The most abusive place Ive ever been to, this place is nothing like a church, if you aint British never go to this church as they will treat you horribly and make you feel really bad, Im writing this review so that they might watch their behaviour and dont hurt anyone else. The positive reviews are written by the staff as I know them, anyway the most dirty thing in the world is to abusing Gods name.
Hope city is not a church, its a club and they are extremely racist, I actually know every single person who has written review here and I know they are from the church staff not people who are attending the church, almost everyone agreed with me about them being extremely racist. They are doing a business abusing God's name and they are really invading people's personal lives. They are rubbing people's pocket and claim that they are helping victims of human trafficking and then keep victims in their houses and leave them starving as there is no proper food and people fight over the food.
I absolutely love Hope City and the amazing sense of community and togetherness there is across all their locations!Ive met some absolutely incredible people here over the 6/7 years Ive been attending, many of whom have had such valuable input and contribution into my life, right from my fellow life group piers to the excellent leadership team there. Im so thankful that I get to call this church my home, and also my family! You should definitely go and check it out for yourself to get a real feel of what its truly like! Guaranteed youll be instantly greeted with plenty of lovely warm friendly smiles, just like I was when I first stepped through the doors all those years ago! Thank you God for placing me in Sheffield and in such a great church!
