Took 41 year 1s here today and it was fab! We are doing the great fire of London as or topic so this was perfect. The staff were friendly and great with the children. Lots of vehicles to climb in and clothes to dress up in. There were some real curiosities here like fire extinguisher grenades! So even the adults learnt something. I'd highly recommend it.
We were welcomed with quite a strong wee-like smell in the cells area, and it is not the only peculiar smell in the Museum. The place in general it feels a bit scary and eerie. Vehicles is the best thing here. We didn't have anything in the cafe. Staff was fine , but not particularly friendly. My five year old child had just told me that the place is a safe five star one! (thank you for the explanation)
Visited the museum back in 2006 with my fiance who was studying at Sheffield U. The museum was free then, but limited to viewing the ground floor only. Nevertheless, the exhibits were well worth a look at - most of the vehicles where from Sheffield's historical fire services - with a few exhibits from the US. We especially loved the building that the collection is housed in - very old, very spooky, with bags of character. Would love to go back there one day, maybe I will - who knows ??.......
This is a fascinating museum well worth the entrance fee, which also gives you access for 12 months - fantastic value.The kids have a great time climbing into the vehicles that they are allowed on Staff are lovely special mention to Josh who went out of his way to put the trains on for the little man thank you.This museums needs money to build a lift so if you are in Sheffield go and support them and have a look round you will not be disappointed.
Visited today, it was their Christmas Vintage Weekend 2018. Plenty to see on multiple floors. Loads of vehicles and exhibits, well worth a visit. The entrance fee gives you 12 months free return visits, a bargain. There's a cafe for a warm drink and a bit of cake. Be aware there are quite a lot of steps.
